3 great ways to find a job in 2010:
Posted on Monday Jan 18, 2010

2010 has to be better than 2009 right? Well I hope so. In the job search world the name of the game is “Keep on Plugging Along.” Whether you have been in a job search for 2 weeks, 2 months, or (should I say it?) 2 years it is important to keep an optimistic attitude. Hard to do isn’t it? Well here are a few tips that may help you:

Write reasonable goals down---You wouldn’t expect to get the perfect job overnight would you? Well is has happened but it is more of a rarity than a reality. Write realistic goals of how many resumes to be sent out, phone conversations to be had, and interviews to attend. The total number should obviously increase as time goes by but if you put the work in you and know you are doing the right things you can have faith that a good job offer will follow. After all it is all a numbers game right?

Stay connected to past colleagues---old office chums and colleagues can turn into the perfect connection as you are searching for a job. Call everybody you know….not only once…but follow up again in 30-45 days. Chances are your old friends may be employed and may be able to connect you to someone that can get you employed as well!

Make new friends---I have 2 computers, an smart-phone, 200 channels on my TV and a GPS system in my car.   I am sure many of you do too. But these items, although great to keep you connected, cannot replace good old fashioned networking. Shake some hands. Get to know people. Attend job fairs and networking meetings. The people you meet may be the ticket you are looking for. People you meet may indeed be seeking a new job like you but may know of job openings that are not for them but may be perfect for you.
